On Saturday, May 17th, members of the Vancouver Audubon Society (VAS) took part in a tabling event. It was held at the Columbia Springs Kids Fishing Festival. For those who don’t know what tabling is, it is essentially an activity where an organization shares information and knowledge. This sharing is about a specific cause or an area of interest with interested community members. We at Vancouver Audubon were there to share information about who we are. We also shared how to get involved. Our primary interest is the protection of birds and their habitats.

Besides providing information about our chapter and birds, there were several activities for families to enjoy. Kids made their own bookmarks with bird stamps of many colors. Kids made their own bird feeders out of pine cones smothered with peanut butter and then covered in bird seed. Kids also choose from an array of bird stickers to take home. And of course, we answered many questions about birds.

Nine members of the Vancouver Audubon society volunteered a total of approximately 24 hours at the event. We estimate that we shared information about birds and their habitats with approximately 250 people (adults and kids). We made many bookmarks and lots of cone bird feeders. The Columbia Springs Kids Fishing festival is a great way to spent a Saturday. Vancouver Audubon hopes to be part of this community event for years to come. Hope to see you there next year!
